Eco-Sensitivity of UV Printing

  • Environmentally Friendly – because UV inks contain no oils or solvents, (these are the primary properties contributing to VOC and HAP emission) the EPA has suggested that UV printing is the most environmental conscious method of printing. Soy and vegetable oil based inks are environmentally friendly, however, they still contain these oils and solvents that contribute to VOC and HAP emission. A typical six-color 40" press running conventional inks, three shifts a day, five days a week will emit over 3,000 lbs. of VOC's and HAP's in a year.

  • Recycling - UV printing is easier to recycle than conventional printing because the inks and coating are insoluble in water. This makes it easier to remove them from the paper and requires fewer chemicals and less power to complete the de-inking and recovery process. There have also been major improvements made leveraging the recovered ingredients of UV inks to be used to manufacture black UV ink.
